Revenge Quotes Part 1

Season 1

Revenge

Confucius- Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.

Emily Thorne- When I was a little girl, my understanding of revenge was as simple as the Sunday school proverbs it hid behind. Neat little morality slogans like “do unto other,” and “two wrongs don’t make a right.” But two wrongs can never make a right… …because two wrongs can never equal each other. For the truly wronged, real satisfaction can only be found in one of two places… …absolute forgiveness or mortal vindication. This is not a story about forgiveness.

Emily Thorne- I try to give back as much as I can.

David Clarke- (In his letter to Amanda.) My dear Amanda. Ifyou’re reading this, then two things have come to pass: I’m finally able to provide you the life you were unjustly denied… …and sadly, I won’t be able to share that life with you. Or life has caught up with me and that bitch named Vicky killed me. I hope these journals provide answers to the questions you’ve had all these years. I am not the man they say I am. I did not do the things they say I did. All I ask is that you promise to do the one thing that’s been so hard for me to do. Forgive.

Emily Thorne- But that was a promise I couldn’t keep. When deception cuts this deep, someone has to pay. My father’s chance to bring justice to the truly guilty was stolen from him. His only option was to forgive. I have others. They say vengeance is a dish best served cold, but, sometimes, it’s as warm as a bowl of soup. My father died an innocent man, betrayed by the woman he loved. When everything you love has been stolen from you… …sometimes all you have left is revenge. Like I said, this is not a story about forgiveness.

Emily Thorne- When I was a child, my father was framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Before he died… He left a road map for revenge that led me to the people who destroyed our lives. Sometimes the innocent get hurt. But one by one the guilty will pay. Nothing ever goes exactly as you expect. And the stakes are life and death. Collateral damage is inescapable.

David Clarke- My dear Amanda, the worst betrayals always come from the ones we trust the most. If I’m at all culpable for what happened to us, it’s because I gave away my trust to easily.

Daniel Grayson- Where we love is home. Home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts. Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Emily Thorne- Trust is a difficult thing. Whether it’s finding the right people to trust… …or trusting the right people will do the wrong thing. But trusting your heart… …is the riskiest thing of all. In the end… …the only person we can truly trust… …is ourself.

Emily Thorne- When I was a child, my father was framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Before he died, he left a road map for revenge that led me to the people who destroyed our lives.

David Clarke- The night after Kingsly presented his closing arguments, Victoria managed to get a note to me.

Victoria Grayson- My dear David, I’m so horrified by what’s happened to you and I know how betrayed you feel. I can’t tell you everything in a letter, but I’m going to Kingsly in the morning with evidence that will exonerate you. By this time tomorrow, the judge will have declared a mistrial and this nightmare will be behind you, behind both of us. Forgive me.

David Clarke- Whatever Victoria said to Kingsly didn’t change his mind. After only one day of deliberations, the jury convicted me on all counts. With friends like the Graysons, Kingsly will probably wind up president someday.

Emily Thorne- I want to destroy his life. If he had done the right thing, he would have saved my father. He chose not to, so down he goes.

Emily Thorne- For the innocent, the past may hold a reward. But for the treacherous, it’s only a matter of time before the past delivers what they truly deserve.

Daniel Grayson- No matter what happens between us, I’ll always be honest with you.

Emily Thorne- Most of the memories I have from childhood are happy ones. Warm summer days filled with love and light. And the certainty that even the darkest storm would eventually pass. And for a while, at least, they always did.

Emily Thorne- The greatest weapon anyone can use against us is our own mind… …by preying on the doubts and uncertainties that already lurk there. Are we true to ourselves, or do we live for the expectations of others? And if we are open and honest… …can we ever truly be loved? Can we find the courage to release our deepest secrets? Or, in the end, are we all unknowable? Even to ourselves?

Emily Thorne- In revenge, as in life, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In the end, the guilty always fall.

David Clarke- Conrad and Victoria knew the victims’ families would need a devil to shoulder the blame for the money Conrad had been laundering for the terrorists. They chose me as the patsy while passing themselves off as grieving benefactors. Never underestimate the power of guilt, Amanda. It compels people to some pretty remarkable places.

Emily Thorne- Guilt is a powerful affliction. You can try to turn your back on it, but that’s when it sneaks up behind you and eats you alive. Some people struggle to understand their own guilt, unwilling or unable to justify the part they play in it. Others run away from their guilt, shedding their conscience until there’s no conscience left at all. But I run toward my guilt. I feed off of it. I need it. My father died never knowing if I would ever come to believe his innocence. For me, guilt is one of the few lanterns that still light my way.

Emily Thorne- They say vengeance taken will tear the heart and torment the conscience. If there’s any truth to it, then I now know with certainty that the path I’m on is the right one.

Daniel Grayson- A necessary evil.

Tyler Barrol- To necessary evils.

Emily Thorne- Like life, revenge can be a messy business. And both would be much simpler, if only our heads could figure out which way our hearts will go. But the heart has its reasons, of which reason cannot know.

Emily Thorne- As Hamlet said to Ophelia, “God has given you one face, and you make yourself another.” The battle between these two halves of identity… …who we are and who we pretend to be… is unwinnable.

Warden Sharon Stiles- What’s the first thing I taught you?

Emily Thorne- Never underestimate your enemy.

Warden Sharon Stiles- And never let your guard down.

Emily Thorne- Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every person… …one that we reveal to the world and another we keep hidden inside. A duality governed by the balance of light and darkness. Within each of us is the capacity for both good and evil. But those who are able to blur the moral dividing line hold the true power.

Emily Thorne- There’s an old saying about those who cannot remember the past being condemned to repeat it. But those of us who refuse to forget the past are condemned to relive it.

Amanda Clarke- Three ounces of vodka, one ounce crème de casis, a little blackberry liqueur. Add ice. And shake. Za schest’-ye. To happiness.

Emily Thorne- The past is a tricky thing. Sometimes it’s etched in stone. And other times, it’s rendered in soft memories. But if you meddle too long in deep, dark things, who knows what monsters you’ll awaken?

Emily Thorne- It’s been written that a lover is apt to be as full of secrets from himself as is the object of his love from him. For my father, the secrets withheld by the women he loved proved powerful enough to destroy him. I’m just now beginning to understand the enormity of that burden.

Tyler Barrol- Ambition versus nepotism.

Emily Thorne- I fear I’m losing control.

Satoshi Takeda- As you were warned, revenge is a stony path. Remember, inside the viper’s nest, you must be a viper, too.

Emily Thorne- We all have secrets we keep locked away from the rest of the world. Friendships we pretend, relationships we hide. But worst of all is the love we never let show. The most dangerous secrets a person can bury are those we keep from ourselves.

Emily Thorne- One thing you can count on, I never forget.

Satoshi Takeda- The task in front of you requires absolute focus. If you let your emotions guide you, you will fail.

Satoshi Takeda- Prioritize the obstacles to your end goal. Eliminate them one at a time.

Conrad Grayson- Envy can be a powerful motivator.

Emily Thorne- My father wrote, “Always question where your loyalties lie. The people you trust will expect it, your greatest enemies will desire it and those you treasure the most will, without fail, abuse it.”

Ryan Huntley- Dear Mr. Clarke, I am writing to inform you that I will not be moving forward with the appeal of your conviction for the crime of treason.

Emily Thorne- Some say loyalty inspires boundless hope. And while that may be, there is a catch. True loyalty takes years to build. And only seconds to destroy.

Emily Thorne- Defense lawyers use the term “Duress” to describe the use of force, coercion, or psychological pressure exerted on a client in the commission of a crime. When duress is applied to the emotionally unstable, the result can be as violent as it is unpredictable.

Emily Thorne- Duress impacts relationships in one of two ways. It either tears people apart… Or strengthens their connection, binding them tightly in a common objective.

Emily Thorne- For the average person leading an ordinary life, fame holds an hypnotic attraction. Many would sooner perish than exist in anonymity. But for the unlucky few who’ve had notoriety forced upon them, infamy can be a sentence more damning than any prison term.

David Clarke- By the time the trial ended, every person I once trusted had turned their back on me. The only remaining option was to find an impartial observer to tell my story. I thought Mason Treadwell would be that person.

Emily Thorne- People are fond of saying that you can’t unring a bell. And while that may be true, you can certainly smother its ring under the dull roar of conjecture and lies. But some words ring out like church bells, rising above the din, calling us to the truth.

Emily Thorne- Some words are immortal. Long-buried or even burned, they’re destined to be reborn, like a phoenix from theashes. And when they do, it can literally take your breath away.

Emily Thorne- Some say that our lives are defined by the sum of our choices. But it isn’t really our choices that distinguish who we are. It’s our commitment to them.

Emily Thorne- For some, commitment is like faith… A chosen devotion to another person or an intangible ideal. But for me, commitment has a shadow side, a darker drive that constantly asks the question… How far am I willing to go?

Revenge Boss Talks Season 3, New Romances, The Shooting of Emily Thorne

Entering Season 3, the storyline threads are picked up about five-to-six months after the bombshell from the season finale, when Emily told Jack that she’s truly Amanda Clark. So... what happens next?

Those questions will be answered in Sunday’s season premiere - but to fill in more of the gaps, I grabbed some time with new showrunner Sunil Nayar to find out what is on the drawing board for all our favorite Revengers. Scroll down for spoiler-filled excerpts from our Q&A...

-------------------------------------------

TV Fanatic: It’s already out there that in the opening moments Emily is in a wedding dress, gets shot and that’s the big mystery we move back from. My question is, is it a mystery who she’s married to or is it a given that it’s Daniel?

Sunil Nayar: It’s pretty much a given that it’s Daniel. This will be her and Daniel’s wedding of the century and we’re seeing how it surprisingly ends.

TVF: I did see a ring on her finger so this is after the ceremony, correct?

SN: That’s right.

TVF: Victoria’s attachment to Patrick (Justin Hartley), which even though we haven’t seen the last five, six months, it’s incredibly close, and I thought, ‘This might be a little too close,’ but am I reading too much into that or is that what you guys are going for?

SN: I don’t know if you’re reading too much into it. I think that what is so jarring about the intimacy is that we’ve never seen, and to your first question, also, we’ve never seen a happy Victoria. So, it’s interesting to see them, her happiness, she’s so desperate to be happy that there’s a kind of intense intimacy that comes with her opening up herself to somebody without being scared that they’re going to hurt her, and so I think that what people are going to see is a connection that is so unique.

So, Victoria, it almost shows more [intimacy] than it should be but that’s only because she has a trust in someone for the first time in her life and he has no judgments about her yet. So, I think we’re just seeing a happy Victoria, and that is something that the audience has never seen before.

TVF: I hear Victoria and Aiden may be getting closer. Are we going to be surprised how close they get?

SN: I think you’re going to be surprised at the kind of faith and confidence they put in each other and they energy they have in the scenes with each other is fantastic. So, I think it’s a dynamic that we’re really excited to explore.

Christa B Allen, Emily VanCamp Josh Bowman

TVF: Yeah, I definitely saw a little spark there, whether it’s a romantic spark or just a devious, let’s-screw-people-over-together spark.

SN: Exactly. And the beauty part of a show like Revenge is, those are the same thing. Romance is found to be devious and devilish, because other people fight. That’s the beauty of their connection.

TVF: Talk to me about Charlotte a little bit. She’s obviously grown up, and she’s been through a lot, so obviously, she’s not cheery and happy in the beginning. What’s her journey?

SN: We’re really loving our new Charlotte. The idea is that the effects of the past six months really put her through the wringer, to an extent that it’s caused her to grow up. With this new maturity comes a new drive and a new confidence, and so, as opposed to having her spiral out of control, what she’s done is she actually let these events ground her, in a way, that’s actualized her as a woman when we see her at the beginning of this season.

I think that were going to see her, in definitely these first ten [episodes], turning into someone that’s unexpected, both in good ways and bad ways, and those devilish ways that we love. We see her getting a little revenge-y at times in a way that’s going to be so surprising and great, where she becomes someone to be dealt with, which is what we wanted to do for her this season.

TVF: Will she and Emily remain close, or is part of that revenge-y stuff maybe between them?

SN: She and Emily are going to have a conflict, definitely. That’s another thing that we wanted to explore is that even though Charlotte doesn’t know it, she and Emily have a very sisterly relationship, which is the good stuff and the bad stuff and the fights, and then the reconciliations, but I think we’re going to see friction between the two of them that we haven’t seen before, which is also part of Charlotte’s new confidence.

TVF: Let’s talk Nolan, who has a great entrance in the premiere’s party scene. How did you guys think about his romantic life this season?

SN: The way we thought about his romantic life is exactly examining the two relationships he’s had, and I think the difference in the two was that Tyler [in Season 1] was existing within this world of the Hamptons and so he was part of everything that was going on. With Padma [on Revenge Season 2] she was wonderful [but] she lived in the corporate world of the show, which is where the romance didn’t live so much and so it was harder.

So, when we talked about Nolan’s next relationship and to how he enters the show this year, he’s loving the Hamptons, loving his life, he’s loving where he is. He’s loving his new house, and so that everything that’s going to happen to him is going to happen in an environment where he is king. So, we wanted to make sure that when the next romance started that it was within this world, so that the person who he falls in love with is going to be affected by the people that are around him, and that gave us just a much greater chance to embrace the romance and the darkness and the sweetness of it. So, I think that you’re going to see something much more in line with the sort of passion that came with Tyler, as opposed to the purposive love he had with Padma.

TVF: When does that character come in?

SN: You’ll see who he’s going to fall in love with midway through these first half, we’re going to reveal who the person is.

TVF: What about Jack? Poor Jack. He’s been through so much. Is his heart still with Emily now that he knows her secret and some time has passed?

SN: I think at the core of him, he’s always going to be in love with her and whether it’s something he wants to acknowledge…what the interesting thing for Jack is, what is it like if you’re in love with someone who you kind of hate? How do you reconcile yourself to a feeling that won’t go away, even though there’s so many other feelings that are swirling around at all times? That is really part of the core of Jack’s journey, is trying to reconcile these two feelings that he has that are passionate and are so prominent in him at all times, while also trying to move on with his life…that’s the wonderful struggle we’re going to see with Jack, is how does Jack try to move on and does Jack want to move on?

TVF: How about Emily’s heart? She’s with Daniel but seems to still have feelings for Jack…

SN: You’re going to see some of the struggle of that, definitely…she has these three guys, Daniel, Aidan and Jack. One of the things that we’re really endeavoring to do this year is to individuate them even more than we have before, and to make each one of them someone that is almost worthy of Emily’s love but then Emily has to really wrestle with the decision of who it is she’s going to pick and which direction she’s going to go because obviously, she’s changed her dynamic with all three guys.

TVF: James LeGros is coming in to the show as Father Paul. What can you tell me about his role?

SN: He shows up in episode two. He’s a got a few-episode arc that I think is so great and he is so wonderful in this part. He’s a very, very powerful person in the world of both Emily’s present and the world of the Grayson’s past. What it puts Emily through, I think, it really speaks to what we’re hoping to do with Emily this year, which is her examination of what her mission is and what the repercussions of that mission are.

'Revenge' Season 3 Spoilers: Emily Thorne's Love Life 'Gets Out of Control' as She Goes on Mission with Jack [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

More than a clichéd love triangle, Revenge's Emily Thorne must deal with three men making her life that much more difficult in Sunday's new episode of the ABC series.

A promotional video for the Oct. 20 episode, titled Mercy, shows Emily (Emily VanCamp) getting into a heated discussion with her fiance, facing her scorned true love who wants answers and figuring out what to do with her ex-boyfriend who returned to The Hamptons for her.

"Revenge can be tough on your love life," the video's voiceover says.

Daniel Grayson (Joshua Bowman) is shown telling his fiance "you walk out that door and I'm not gonna be here when you get back." Emily grabs her jacket to leave their home and tells him "I thought you were better but you're just as wrapped up in your family's lies."

Aiden Mathis (Barry Sloane), who recently returned to The Hamptons, wants back into Emily's life and tells her "I came back here to help you finish this." He was seen coming to Nolan Ross' (Gabriel Mann) house party with Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) but Aiden still has feelings for Emily and a still shot from the episode shows him holding her hand. He is also shown in another still shot topless and getting close with another woman.

Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler) is also not giving Emily an easy time. He meets up with her in his bar and says "if I'm in danger I'd like to know," probing Emily to reveal more than she might want to. She then instills enough trust in him to go with him on a mission, but things do not go so smoothly. ABC noted about them teaming up, "When Emily's biggest takedown yet crashes and burns, she must rely on help from an unlikely source to investigate what went wrong."

There is also a heated confrontation between Aiden and Jack that takes place in Sunday's episode.

Season 3 of Revenge airs Sundays at 9/8 p.m. ET on ABC.

'Revenge' Season 3 Spoilers: Emily's Wedding Episode Revealed & Title; Will Someone Die?

Church bells will ring in a upcoming episode of Revenge scheduled to air in December and the highly-anticipated wedding of the season will take place, though perhaps not without its struggles.

A promotional clip for season 3 of the ABC series, released in August, showed a flash-forward of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) getting shot three times on her wedding day. Before the shooting she tells someone standing off camera "I'm sorry.". A gun goes off and she is then shown falling backwards overboard and into the ocean. The footage does not reveal who pulled the trigger, but viewers may find out who the shooter was very soon.

Emily's wedding will play out in episode 10 scheduled to air on Dec. 1, E! Online  reported. The episode's title is Exodus and considering the word's definition (a mass departure) fans are left wondering if someone will die or if The Hamptons will see some of its most notable residents leaving.

Daniel also holds his fair share of secrets from his fiancée.

Emily still does not know that Margo tries to seduce Daniel and get him to sleep with her.

A promo clip for the Oct. 20 episode, titled Mercy, shows Emily getting into a heated discussion Daniel. He tells her "you walk out that door and I'm not gonna be here when you get back" and Emily fires back with "I thought you were better but you're just as wrapped up in your family's lies."
